A Street Cat Named Bob, a book written by James Bowen is an autobiography of the author and his cat, Bob. James Bowen who is an author and busker, was interviewed by journalist
Garry Jenkins, resulting in him writing the autobiography.
A Street Cat Named Bob tells a true story of the life between a man and a cat. The
man, James Bowen on one evening; found an injured, ginger street cat curled up in the
hallwayof his sheltered accommodation. James is just an ordinary man, who had a troubled
past as a heroin addict who’s trying to recover and works as a busker. Thus, James who was
living hand to mouth on the streets of London indeed the last thing he needed was a pet.
However, he couldn't resist helping and taking care of the strikingly intelligent tom cat, in
which he named it, Bob. He slowly nursed Bob back to health and then sent the cat on his
way to the streets, imagining he would never see him again. It turns out that, Bob was fond
of James and soon, the two were inseparable. Under 21 small chapters, the story revolves
around their life; the day both first met, the road of Bob’s recovery, the friendship of one
man and his cat, the thick and thin they went through together, and until both who found
each other, gave hope and a future together.
The interesting part about this story is that it isn’t a typical life story of a man and a
cat, in which readers some will assume that this kind of story has been read elsewhere. The
fact that the story is written well, and the real life story that is moving and uplifting will
definitely touch the heart of anyone who reads it.The kindness of a man who was broken,
struggled to recover as a heroin addict, simply shown as he couldn’t let go another poor
broken creature who needed help into the streets of London. With the loneliness
overwhelms each other, both found a new company, side by side fighting to survive. It
simply teaches the readers on how one simple act of kindness can bring another act of
kindness.
Furthermore, readers will be able to see and feel how James and Bob dependent on
each other, in which in some cases it will be quite rare to see a stray animal been attached
to someone. For a man and his cat to be together, slowly transform both their lives and
healing the scars of each other's troubled pasts. Readers too will be able to join and feel
their adventures in the street of London that includes variation of citizens and tourists. As
the story goes deeper, readers will see the past of an ordinary man changed by a street cat,
which simply entered his life, accompanied each other and becomes the best friend. Truly,
readers will be able to attach and moved by this story as the story teaches and reflects on
two different creatures that has been given second chances in their life; to move on, to fix
their past and to build a new future.
A Street Cat Named Bob is a must have book, as it was well written and conveys an
important message that everybody deserves that second chance.
“… we are all given second chances every day of our lives. They are there for the
taking; it’s just that we don’t usually take them.”
